Graphics and Visualisation Workshop

Learning and embracing visual communication

I’m a firm believer that everyone can draw. As someone from a technical and engineering background, I was never ‘gifted’ or naturally talented in art, however I always wanted to draw and it really frustrated me that I couldn’t draw or at least I thought I couldn’t draw. So, I simply taught myself. I learnt how to draw by learning simple, basic skills and drawing techniques and since that day it has opened up the doors to so many creative and effective methods of communications especially with my teams at work.

Ideas are at the heart of our everyday lives. Just look around. Ideas are everywhere. We walk past them everyday from the posters on the walls in the subway to road signs and signals or even marketing campaign adverts in the newspaper. Ideas kickstart everything in some shape or form and enable us to make decisions and experience life from different angles and perspectives.

Coming up with an idea, however, isn’t easy and it’s even more difficult to write down ideas and express them whether they are verbal or physical. As a blogger and writer, I experience this all the time and it’s incredibly frustrating. What if I said there was another creative outlet that allowed us to express our ideas?

I’m a firm believer that everyone can draw. As someone from a technical and engineering background, I was never ‘gifted’ or naturally talented in art, however I always wanted to draw and it really frustrated me that I couldn’t draw or at least I thought I couldn’t draw. So, I simply taught myself. I learnt how to draw by learning simple, basic skills and drawing techniques and since that day it has opened up the doors to so many creative and effective methods of communications especially with my teams at work. However, being able to draw is not just about technique and style. It’s also about confidence and enjoyment. So, if you’re interested in learning how to draw and using this skill to express your ideas especially at work, then you’re in the right place.

Build up your confidence by coming along to this interactive and enjoyable graphics and visualisation workshop. The workshop is designed to enable you to find the best way to express your ideas visually, whether it’s for yourself, your business branding or for enriching a workshop or presentation for your teams.

Don’t expect to find a PowerPoint presentation or even sit down for longer than a couple of minutes! We will spend some time talking ‘a little theory’ and then jump straight into exercises that will help you to build your drawing skills. Activities covered in the workshop will include:

• Drawing and practicing basic shapes and symbols

• Getting to grips with drawing people, faces and expressions

• Active listening and ideation exercises

• Collaborative design and sketching

This session is aimed at anyone who wants to improve their drawing abilities and as the facilitator, I will be guiding you through the process. You will be impressed and amazed at what can be achieved by simply putting pen to paper and ‘putting lines round an idea’. Remember, anyone can draw!
